All of our firewalls are hardware based which means that security checks take place at the firewall gateway, unlike software firewalls which are installed on the server adding to the load on the server. 

Our firewalls are based upon industry leader Fortinet’s FortiGate firewalls. FortiGate firewalls provide far more than just traditional firewall protection.  Leaders in Unified Threat Management (UTM), Fortinet firewalls include Intrusion Protection, Anti-virus and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) options.  This means you can opt for the basic defence offered by a single firewall or choose to take advantage of all of the following security options:

  • Anti-virus - Automated Content Updates: keeps defences up-to-date with the latest virus, spyware, and heuristic detection engines.
  • Intrusion Prevention - Over 2000 signatures and the latest anomaly inspection, deep packet inspection, full content inspection, and activity inspection engines proactively updated on a daily basis.
  • VPN - Industry standard IPSec and SSL VPN support provides secure communication tunnels between networks and clients.

Dedicated managed firewall service

NetBenefit’s dedicated firewalls range from an entry level 50B all the way up to an enterprise level FortiGate 110C capable of dealing with in excess of 400,000 concurrent user sessions. As you would expect, each firewall is dedicated to your own hosting solution.  Firewalls can be used singly or configured in high availability (active-active or active-passive) pairs.

In addition to providing the highest level of throughput and supporting the highest number of concurrent users, an unlimited number of firewall rules can be applied to the NetBenefit dedicated firewall.

Shared firewall service

NetBenefit’s shared firewall platform is based upon powerful FortiGate firewalls arranged in high availability configuration for guaranteed continuous service.  Customers benefit from firewall protection, default firewall rules and a generous throughput of 10 Mbps. The shared firewall service can be used in conjunction with both dedicated or virtual servers.  The number of customers using any individual shared firewall service is always limited to ensure performance.  This is an ideal entry level firewall service.

Virtual firewall service

Like the shared firewall, the virtual firewall service is based upon powerful FortiGate firewalls in an active-active configuration for guaranteed continuous service.

A virtual firewall has many of the features of a dedicated firewall and is able to support a higher number of users sessions and throughput than a shared firewall.  For example, it can be used with a VPN and a greater level of customisation is possible with firewall rules. However, the Fortinet Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus options are not available with a virtual firewall.
