How does Ultra-V work?

The Ultra-V platform consists of multiple physical servers clustered around high availability storage and protected by robust enterprise firewalls. The virtual private servers or guests are then located on each of those hardware nodes.

The virtualisation platform has been constructed to support hundreds of virtual private servers, all of which have the option of expandable memory, hard drive, bandwidth and backup.

Microsoft’s Hyper-V live migration (central management centre) allows NetBenefit to transparently move running virtual private servers from one node of the failover cluster to another without a dropped network connection or downtime. The failover clustering is enabled via shared storage with fibre channel connections. Live migration makes it possible to keep virtual private servers online, even during maintenance, increasing productivity for both users and server administrators alike.

In the unlikely event of hardware failure , there are enough spare resources on the remaining hosts (physical servers) to take the load.
